It will be important to review the information below for general instructions to follow on the day of your surgery. Your physician may have additional specific instructions as well. Please be sure to follow any instructions you have been given for the day of your surgery.
If you are having outpatient surgery, please make sure that a responsible adult is available to drive you home once you have been released from the hospital. You will not be allowed to drive following your surgery.
If you have any questions, please be sure to discuss them with your physician or a member of the Sierra Surgery Hospital staff.
- Arrival Time.
You must arrive a minimum of 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to your surgery unless instructed differently by Sierra Surgery Hospital personnel. - Children.
Please do not bring children with you. Our hospital does not have the facilities or personnel to provide adequate supervision for your children while you are in surgery. - Children Having Surgery.
A parent or legal guardian will be encouraged to stay with the child while at our facility, so please plan accordingly. Children under the age of 14 must not be left unattended while at Sierra Surgery Hospital. - Hygiene.
Take a shower the night before or the morning of the surgery procedure to minimize your risk of infection. Teeth may be brushed the morning of surgery; however, do not consume liquid after brushing. Do not wear lotions. - Valuables.
We encourage patients to leave all valuables at home. Patients will need to bring their identification, insurance cards and payment method with them on the day of surgery. These items may be secured in the hospital safe; but, we encourage patients to have these items sent home. Sierra Surgery Hospital cannot be responsible for the loss, theft or damage to any clothing, cash, valuables or their personal belongings not secured in the hospital safe. - Jewelry.
Leave all jewelry at home. Remove all body piercings, if applicable. - Wearing Makeup.
A minimum of makeup may be worn; however, we suggest that no makeup be worn. - Medications.
Take only those medications that you have been instructed to take; this includes over the counter medications. Please bring a list of the medications you take with the dosages to be given at check-in or to the pre-op nurse. - Clothing.
Wear comfortable clothing keeping the type of surgery in mind. Jogging suits are recommended. For example, if you are having eye, neck or head surgery, it is recommended that you wear a shirt that buttons in the front. - Glasses, Contact lenses.
Wear your glasses instead of contact lenses. You may be asked to remove your glasses before surgery. - Dentures, Partials.
You may be asked to remove your dentures, partial plate, or removable bridge just prior to surgery. You will be able to wear the dentures and partials into the operating room. In the OR, teeth will be placed in a container and labeled with your name and returned to you after you are fully awake. - Medical Equipment.
If you currently use or will need to use crutches, a walker or a wheelchair, please bring them with you the day of surgery. - Inpatients and Overnight Patients.
- You can bring personal comfort items such as pillows, robes or slippers.
- You can bring your personal items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush and any other hygiene items needed.
- Bring all your medications in the original bottles – this medication will be stored in the pharmacy.
