How Can I Make the Procedure More Comfortable?

Women across the world have mammograms every day. Some experience slight discomfort during the time the breast is compressed, and others have more discomfort.

Dr. Antoinette Cortese, head of the Breast Center, recommends these tips to make your experience more pleasant.

  • Schedule your mammogram one week after your menstrual period when your breasts are least sensitive.
  • Avoid caffeine for several days before the mammogram.
  • If your breasts are sensitive, take Tylenol or ibuprofen about one hour before your appointment.
