The need to have additional breast imaging because of breast symptoms or following an abnormal finding on a screening mammogram can be unsettling. However, it is important to understand that diagnostic imaging is not a diagnosis of breast cancer. It is simply taking a closer look at a specific area of the breast. Diagnostic imaging often helps determine that an abnormality is benign. Most abnormalities detected are not cancer.
