Body Mass Index Calculations

The body mass index is a reliable indicator of body fat accepted worldwide.

Although the BMI is not always accurate, for instance athletes with muscular builds or the elderly with decreased muscle mass, may not be measured properly. But overall, the BMI is an excellent initial indicator for obesity.

The BMI is basically a calculation of your body fat based on your height and weight. Calculating your BMI is as simple as going to any number of Web sites. In practicality, your BMI is your weight divided by the square of your height. But understanding the precise mathematic calculations is not as important as the actual BMI number.
